Armenian Ani Cathedral to function as Turkish mosque after renovation
The Armenian Ani Cathedral, located in Kars Province of Turkey’s Ani archaeological site, which is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, is being renovated, reported Ermenihaber.am.
After the renovation, however, the cathedral will function as a mosque, reported Anadolu Agency.
It is not noted at all that the medieval city and church of Ani are Armenian. Ani Cathedral is presented as the Fethiye Mosque. But it is noted that it was built by Armenian architect Trdat.
The head of excavations at the Ani archaeological site, Muhammet Arslan, said that the renovation of Ani Cathedral is being carried out in three phases. The second phase is planned to be completed this year.
