The first founding conference of the Armenian Union Party elected Imad Tetriyan as the party’s Secretary-General, along with the election of the party’s political bureau. The conference’s outcomes affirmed the rejection of the characterization of Armenians as a minority and called for constitutional recognition of Armenian identity and language, as well as guaranteed representation in institutions, considering them essential partners in shaping the country’s future.

The first founding conference of the Armenian Union Party was held today in the city of Hasakah, in al-Jazira canton of northeastern Syria. It was attended by 500 party delegates and approximately 150 guests representing the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, political parties, Arab and Kurdish tribes, and representatives of various Syrian communities.
During the conference, several speeches emphasized the Armenian people’s heritage and the necessity of building a democratic, decentralized Syria that guarantees the rights of all Syrians. The conference then continued behind closed doors, excluding the media.
The conference concluded with a final statement read by Father Noubar Melkonian, pastor of the Holy Church of the Armenian Catholics. He noted that the party’s bylaws had been ratified and approved by 500 party delegates.
He explained that the conference elected Imad Tetriyan as Secretary-General of the Armenian Union Party and elected the members of the Political Bureau: Kohar Khajodrian, Fayez al-Hussein, Jean Mardo, and Silda Simon.
He indicated that the conference issued a number of recommendations, the most important of which were:
– Rejection of the concept of minorities; Armenians are an integral part of Syrian society, not a minority.
– The necessity of including Armenians in the Syrian National Conference.
– Drafting a new constitution for Syria that includes clear provisions guaranteeing recognition of Armenian identity and the Armenian language.
– Emphasizing that protecting all communities is a shared national responsibility.
– Prohibiting the establishment of any center or council in the name of the Armenians without consulting the Armenian Union Party.
– Ensuring Armenian representation in all institutions, particularly in North and East Syria, and in Syria as a whole.
The concluding statement of the first founding conference of the Armenian Union Party affirmed: “This conference reflects the Armenians’ determination to solidify their political and cultural presence after years of marginalization. It links constitutional justice with the recognition of Armenian identity as an integral part of the future of Syria, and positions Armenians as essential partners in shaping the new Syrian state.”
