The National Sports Arbitration Center has issued a ruling in a case involving tennis player Elina Avanesyan, who began competing under the Armenian flag in 2024. The arbitration body upheld the claim filed by the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) regarding compensation for financial losses due to the failure to fulfill the terms of a sports training contract.
According to the RTF, the proceedings lasted several months. As a result, the arbitration recognized the claims of the Russian side as justified. Under the ruling, Avanesyan is required to compensate the federation for expenses related to her training, as well as contractual payments, including a portion of income earned from her professional tennis career and related costs.
It should be recalled that in August 2024, the 23-year-old athlete officially changed her sporting citizenship, moving from the Russian federation to the Armenian one. This decision became an important milestone in her career and attracted significant attention from the tennis community.
Elina Avanesyan is a winner of 14 ITF tournaments in singles and doubles. She currently holds 118th place in the WTA rankings and continues to compete internationally, representing Armenia.
