Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople to join campaign against the Catholicos?
Iravunk daily newspaper of Armenia reported: The Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, Sahak Mashalian, no longer enthusiastically supports Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II after the statement of the 10 bishops. Pakrat Estukyan, editor of the Armenian-language Agos newspaper published in Istanbul, said in an interview with Iravunk.com:
Until recently, Sahak Mashalian, like all clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was swearing allegiance to the Catholicos. But after the statement of the 10 bishops, he has adopted a passive stance; moreover, he has become tacit and neutral. After that statement, he has begun to withdraw, although he has not yet openly expressed a position.
Do you think it is possible that he will also join the 10 bishops?
No, I do not see the possibility of his joining them. But he will no longer stand with the Catholicos with the same enthusiasm as before. Although nothing is ruled out, the situation is developing hour by hour.
