Nicky & the Grave Robbers Tour
By Jirair Tutunjian
The headlines from Armenia say Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will tour Armenia soon with his fabled band, The Grave Robbers, and play all-time favorites. The tour is, of course, intended to boost his popularity among young voters who would presumably assume Pashinyan is “with it” and a “cool dude” and support him in the crucial June parliamentary elections. Pashinyan, the band’s drummer, obviously adheres to the Roman administrative strategy of “bread and circus” to divert and pacify unhappy voters.
Although the Nicky & the Grave Robbers’ concert line-up is hush-hush, our intrepid spies have managed to get hold of the program.
Responding to Armenian youths’ addiction to western music, the two-part program will feature all-time, sure-fire favorites and a bouquet of Beatle classics which often have a political subtext.
Thus, the first half of the program will feature It’s Now or Never; What’s Going On? What Did I say? Where Is My Mind? Runaway; Born to Run; Can Get No Satisfaction; Accentuate the Positive; Day Dream Believer; Everybody is Somebody’s Fool; Light My Fire; Respect; You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling; Que Sera, Sera; Day Dream Believer; That Will Be The Day; Run For Your Life; Redemption Song; and Everybody’s Got Something to Hide.
Following intermission, Drummer Nicky and the Grave Robbers will play 100 percent genuine Beatle hits. Here’s the tentative line-up: Ana Go To Him; Ana’s Song; Can’t Buy Me Love; Twist and Shout; With a Little Help From My Friends; I Should Have Known Better; Back In The USSR; The Long and Winding Road; Yesterday; Do You Want to Know A Secret? I’m Going to Sit Right Down and Cry; The Fool On The Hill; Long and Winding Road; Revolution; A Hard Day’s Night; One And One is Two; Tomorrow Never Knows; I’m So Tired; LadyMisery; All Things Must Pass; I’m A Loser; Help!; and I’ll Be Back.
In June, we will learn whether Nicky and the Grave Robbers had an impact on Armenia’s young voters and were successful in veering the so-called youth vote towards Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia’s intemperate PM and drummer extraordinaire.
So, in the next five months, Armenia’s hills will come alive with the sound of Nicky’s Ilham-scaring drums.
