Delays in citizenship process for Artsakh residents ahead of elections raise suspicions

Residents of Artsakh are contacting me daily about delays in obtaining Armenian citizenship and identity documents, National Assembly deputy Garnik Danielyan wrote.
“On a daily basis, I receive letters and calls from our compatriots regarding deadlines for obtaining passports, including ID cards. The problem is that those on waiting lists can receive or renew their passports only after several months, which has caused justified frustration.
We have repeatedly noted that the system is overloaded and that concrete steps are needed so that residents of the capital, in particular, do not have to queue in Armenia’s regions just to slightly reduce waiting times.
I am confident that resolving the issue and properly serving such a small population is not difficult. In the face of such unprecedented queues, passport offices can be expanded and staffed accordingly.
Our compatriots forcibly displaced from Artsakh also contact me regarding delays in the process of obtaining Armenian citizenship. The creation of such artificial obstacles, especially on the eve of elections, is unacceptable and raises suspicions. I have submitted written inquiries to the relevant bodies to clarify the problems described,” Danielyan wrote.
