Armenia’s Women’s Tennis Team Beats Azerbaijan
The Armenian women’s tennis team successfully started the Billy Gene King Cup tournament, taking place in San Marino, Italy. In the first Group 3 Europe round, the Armenian team comfortably defeated Azerbaijan with a score of 3-0.
In the individual competitions, Armenia’s Ani Amiraghyan and Elina Avanessyan delivered victories.
In the doubles competition, Maria Azizyan and Alina Soghomonian consolidated the success of the Armenian team, winning with a score of 6-2 and 6-1.
On the other hand, in the Group 4 of the Europe Zone of the Boys’ Davis Cup, the Armenian team defeated San Marino with a score of 2-1.
Armenia’s first point was won by Davit Boghossian, who defeated Leonardo Bartoletti 6-4, 6-1.
In the second match of the second round, Avetik Ghazarian tied his opponent Filippo Tomezani 4-6, 6-2, but was injured early in the third set and had to retire, dedicating the victory to his San Marino opponent.
The match was decided in the doubles, where Samuel Aghayan and Michael Avanessian defeated the Tomezani-Vanucci pair 6-4, 6-3.
It should be noted that Armenia defeated Andorra 3-0 in their first round match. Armenia will next play against Iceland.
