Avanesyan outlasts Putintseva in Hamburg, makes Armenian history

Qualifier Elina Avanesyan defeated No. 7 seed Yulia Putintseva for the first time in three meetings in a 2-hour, 11-minute three-setter in the MSC Hamburg Ladies Open second round, advancing to her first tour-level quarterfinal since Merida 2025.
Avanesyan joined Armenian compatriot Alina Charaeva in the last eight, marking the first time that two Armenians have reached the quarterfinals of a WTA Tour main draw.
