Acropolis Museum to Host Major Pre-Christian Armenian Exhibition
The Acropolis Museum in Athens is set to host a significant exhibition showcasing Armenia’s pre-Christian heritage, featuring more than 100 artifacts from the History Museum of Armenia.
This initiative stems from a memorandum of cooperation signed between the two institutions on February 19, 2026, during Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan’s state visit to Greece. The agreement was formalized at the Acropolis Museum by David Poghosyan, Director of the History Museum of Armenia, and Nikolaos Stampolidis, Director General of the Acropolis Museum.
The signing ceremony highlighted the start of enhanced collaboration, including professional exchanges and joint projects. Poghosyan called the memorandum a key milestone, building on prior discussions during Stampolidis’s visit to Yerevan the previous year. He emphasized that the upcoming fall exhibition will bring Armenia’s ancient pre-Christian artifacts to a global audience, as the Acropolis Museum attracts over one million visitors each year from Greece and worldwide.
Stampolidis echoed this sentiment, describing the partnership as a vital step to showcase Armenian civilization more broadly. He noted that Armenia is frequently linked to its post-Christian era, and this exhibition aims to illuminate its rich pre-Christian legacy for the museum’s diverse international visitors.
The exhibition will provide a prominent platform to introduce Armenia’s historical and cultural treasures to millions, fostering greater awareness of its ancient roots.
