Ana Kasparian calls out Dr. Oz for claiming an Armenian lavash bakery in Los Angeles was part of a hospice and home care fraud without any evidence
On January 27), Dr. Mehmet Oz posted a clip of himself standing near an Armenian bakery in Los Angeles, calling it part of a hospice and home care fraud. In a short clip from his video that surfaced online, he’s heard saying:
“Well, we have learned that there’s roughly $3.5 billion of fraud taking place here in Los Angeles in hospice and home care. It’s run – quite a bit of it – by the Russian and Armenian mafia. You notice the lettering and language behind me is of that dialect. It also highlights the fact that this is an organized crime, a mafia deal.”
Dr. Oz’s video has since received backlash from many, including journalist Ana Kasparian, who called his accusation “kinda dopey”. Kasparian then stated her familiarity with the establishment, claiming it was a genuine Armenian bakery. Finally, making a snide remark at Oz, she wrote:
“Oz of all people should know where to find the fraudsters.”For the unversed, Oz has been targeting LA’s establishments – especially hospice facilities – in recent weeks, claiming that they’re a hub of fraudulent activities in the state. In another video posted by the TV personality on X on Tuesday, he wrote:
“L.A. County has become an epicenter for health care fraud in America. Criminals have corrupted the system so much that fraud is now almost expected. President Trump has made it clear: we will not tolerate the patient harm or taxpayer funded theft any longer.”He also said earlier this week that the Russian and Armenian mobs in California were being “aggressively” targeted by the Trump administration to uncover the ongoing medical fraud in the Golden State.
The former surgeon added that the scale of Medicaid fraud in California is “huge,” making the Minnesota daycare fraud appear pale in comparison.
Gavin Newsom mocks Dr. Oz for cosplaying as a “fraud fighter”
Ana Kasparian isn’t the only one who is calling Dr. Oz out on his baseless claims of fraud across Los Angeles. The state’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has also slammed him over his remarks about LA being an “epicenter for health care fraud”.
The caption further read that Newsom had banned all new hospices back in 2022, while revoking the licenses of more than 280 existing establishments.
