Armenian envoy meets Latter-day Saints leaders in U.S.

Armenia’s Ambassador to the U.S., Narek Mkrtchyan, held a meeting with members of the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor Henry B. Eyring, and Second Counselor D. Todd Christofferson, according to the Armenian Embassy in the U.S.

Mkrtchyan welcomed their participation in the January 9 Christmas event held at Washington National Cathedral and noted that the LDS Church, like other religious institutions, operates freely in Armenia thanks to the country’s guaranteed religious freedom, an essential element of its democracy.

The parties emphasized the importance of defending religious liberty, promoting interfaith dialogue, and expanding cooperation based on shared values.

Mkrtchyan also expressed gratitude for the Church’s longstanding humanitarian mission in Armenia, which began after the 1988 Spitak earthquake, and highlighted the continued significance of its support.
