The Armenian Government will allocate approximately 93 million drams to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports to purchase and transfer to the Matenadaran a valuable manuscript – Sargis Shnorhali’s commentary on the Seven Catholic Epistles.
This 13th-century manuscript, considered of exceptional theological and scholarly significance, will contribute to the advancement of scientific research and enhance the Armenian Church’s standing in modern ecumenical dialogue.
Several months ago, INLIBRIS Gilhofer Nfg, an Austrian company specializing in old and rare books and manuscripts, put the manuscript up for auction. Negotiations over its price lasted for months, resulting in a reduced cost of 200,000 euros (about 93 million drams.) The price reduction was also due to the owners’ strong desire to hand over the manuscript to the Matenadaran.
