Azerbaijan announces ‘740 Muslim cemeteries’ in Armenia
By “Western Azerbaijan,” Azerbaijan means virtually the entire territory of modern-day Armenia.
This time, the president Aziz Alekberli of the “Western Azerbaijan” community—which was created hurriedly—announced the determination of the coordinates of “740 Muslim cemeteries” located in “Western Azerbaijan.” This was stated during an event held jointly with the Caucasus Muslims’ Board.
The aforesaid newly-emerged figure complained that “most of the Muslim cemeteries are being practically destroyed,” and “Armenian cemeteries have been built on some of them”.
“This is a terrible fact, and it must be conveyed to the world community. In this regard, it is necessary to carry out joint events with the Caucasus Muslims’ Board,” added Alekberli.
The goal of such an information campaign is obvious: to achieve two goals in one step. First, in the absence of facts, to create emotional prerequisites for various claims against the Armenian side. Naturally, there can be no talk of “hundreds of Muslim cemeteries” in Armenia, especially those that have been destroyed. And second, to divert attention from the Azerbaijani destruction of the Armenian heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh and the already destroyed Armenian heritage in the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan.
