Bishops’ Synod of Armenian Church to be held in Austria
The next Bishops’ Synod of the Armenian Apostolic Church will not be held in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, but outside Armenia, Aysor.am has learned.
Accordingly, such a decision was made taking into account the anti-church campaign of the Armenian authorities and its consequences.
Following the discussions held at the Supreme Spiritual Council meeting on November 4-7, 2025 under the leadership of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, it was decided to convene a Bishops’ Synod on December 10-12 to consider the latest developments surrounding the Armenian Apostolic Church and intra-church life.
But on December 7, it became known that the convening of this Bishops’ Synod had been postponed, “considering the current situation in Armenia, in particular the Armenian authorities’ repressions against clergy, including arrests, in response to the request of the bishops,” the Mother See had announced.
The Bishops’ Synod is the assembly of the bishops of the seats of the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is composed of all the bishops of the Church, and its chairman is the Catholicos of All Armenians.
