Pashinyan’s plans to depose Catholicos Karekin II is failing
The Zhoghovurd newspaper reported: Although Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s plans to dethrone Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II are decisive, even a roadmap is drawn up with the 10 bishops who are considered traitors, the results are not satisfactory for the ruling Civil Contract Party.
Even public support, people brought to mobile liturgies are unable to create the impression of broad consolidation. And as of today, it must be recorded that Pashinyan’s plan to change the Catholicos through the controversial bishops is not becoming a public agenda. As for the Armenian Apostolic church canons, the Zhoghovurd daily learned that Pashinyan and the 10 traitors are facing serious difficulties here, since the fate of the Catholicos is in the hands of 57 bishops.
Even if 10 out of 57 are currently demanding that the Catholicos step down, this is extremely insufficient; at least 39 bishops must submit a demand for the resignation [of the Catholicos], after which the 57 bishops must gather and decide whether they are accepting that demand, or even the resignation submitted by the Catholicos or not.
That is, even if the Catholicos resigns, the bishops must approve that resignation. But since the number of the 10 traitors is not increasing for a long time, it can be said that the process has reached a dead end. There is no way out to achieve the removal of the Catholicos through legal means. All that remains is to simply abduct the Catholicos, which also seems to be in Pashinyan’s plans.
