Street in Astana to be named in honor of Mesrop Mashtots
As part of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s official visit to Kazakhstan, a street in Astana will be named after Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of the Armenian alphabet.
According to Armenpress correspondent in Kazakhstan, the opening ceremony will be attended by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
Last year, during Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Armenia, discussions were held on the principle of reciprocity to name a street or park in Astana after Mesrop Mashtots and in Yerevan after the Kazakh poet and founder of Kazakh literature, Abay Kunanbayev.
In April this year, the Yerevan Council of Elders decided to name a park adjacent to Alma-Ata Street in the Avan administrative district after Abay Kunanbayev.
