Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan: Turkey-Armenia border can be opened on one condition

The ambassador noted that the Azerbaijan-Armenia and Turkey-Armenia normalization processes should be viewed holistically.
“The two normalization processes are being conducted in parallel. Special representatives were appointed in 2022 regarding the Turkiye-Armenia normalization process. It is known that Turkiye’s border with Armenia has been closed since 1993 due to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Armenia is a landlocked country, and the Armenian people suffer the most from this situation. Armenia borders Azerbaijan and Turkiye to the east and west, and these borders are closed. Everyone will gain from this peace, but Armenia will benefit the most. We want the normalization process to accelerate,” he said.
The Turkish diplomat spoke also about Turkey’s conditions for reopening the border with Armenia.
“If a lasting peace agreement is signed or initialed, and the conditions regarding the Zangezur Corridor are met, the Turkiye-Armenia border may also be opened at the appropriate time as a result of consultations between Ankara and Baku. This will depend on how the normalization process develops,” said the Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan.
