Turkish Singer: “I’m Ashamed of Being a Turk”

Istanbul — Turkish rapper Sercan İpekçioğlu (aka Ezhel) in his comment on social media criticized his Turkishness.
In a post titled “Hymns with the name Turk” on his Instagram page “Kültürsüz,” Ipekcioglu wrote: “When we realize that we have oppressed others, being Turkish can regain its lost power. These national anthems were written because we enjoyed oppressing. Let’s pay tribute to justice. In that way, perhaps, we will have served our national identity. Let’s admit our mistakes. “How much further can we go while being proud of murder?”
The singer also emphasized that as long as the word “Turk” does not bring to mind honesty, justice, or happiness, he will be ashamed of being a Turk
It is worth noting that Ezhel’s words have sparked a wave of criticism among the Turkish public. They have accused the rapper of ingratitude and emphasized that they are proud to be Turks.
