1,437 Artsakh refugees have applied for citizenship
YEREVAN /ARKA/. Some 1,437 forcibly displaced residents of Nagorno-Karabakh have applied for Armenian citizenship, Armenian Interior Minister Vahe Ghazaryan told a parliamentary committee.
According to him, 76,339 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh have received a certificate of temporary protection.
On September 19-20, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh using artillery, UAVs and combat aviation. On September 28, as a result of negotiations with the Azerbaijani side, Karabakh President Samvel Shahramanyan issued a decree dissolving all state institutions as of January 1, 2024.
Residents were forced to leave their homeland and move to Armenia. According to the Armenian government, more than 115,000 residents of Karabakh were accepted. One-time allowance of 100 thousand drams was given to 113 thousand people, and payments of 50 thousand drams were also given monthly to each family member to pay housing rent and utility bills (only to those who do not have their own real estate in Armenia).
