Vatican Follies

By Jirair Tutunjian
In the past year or two Armenians and possibly odars have been baffled and repelled by the late Pope Francis’ inexplicable warm relations with the Azerbaijan dictatorship. There are fewer than 600 Catholics in Azerbaijan.
Now we learn the reason for the Holy See’s unholy affair with the vicious dictator who gets his jollies by destroying Armenian churches and claiming the Armenian churches and monuments in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) are of ancient Azeri origin. It would surprise no one if one of these days Baby Aliyev declares Mesrob Mashdots was an Azeri who gave Armenians the alphabet.
The late Pope Francis and the hoods in hoods who circled him were threatened by a huge amount of red ink. According to internal Vatican documents, the Holy See ran an incredible E83 million deficit in 2024. The crisis was so severe that the Vatican is still sitting on millions of dollars of its pension obligations.
Until the Argentinian cardinal became pope, the Vatican received millions of dollars from conservative Catholic Americans. These patrons were eventually disenchanted by the liberal policies of Pope Francis. To express their displeasure, they stopped donating money to the pope’s coffers. There were also scandals: Vatican’ alleged relations with the Italian Freemasons, Pope Francis’ inept real estate investments, and the suicide of a banker connected to the Vatican.
Vatican’s former auditor revealed that Church accounts were written by hand on paper and “filed” helter skelter in various drawers. When he revealed Holy See’s cavalier attitude regarding financial matters—in addition to corruption–the auditor was forced to retire.
Enter Baby Aliyev, plastic surgery addict Mrs. Aliyev, and their stained petrodollars. Vatican hoped the Azeri genocidier could relieve some of the Church’s financial pressures.
The deal was simple: Vatican would provide credibility-respectability to the bloody Azeri gangster by bestowing its highest award to Mr. and Mrs. Dictator. In lieu, Azerbaijan would donate funds for Vatican’s supposed restoration projects (what organization would spend millions for restoration when it owes E80 million?) Pope Francis’ corrupt cardinals even sponsored a show-seminar in Rome to spotlight “Azeri” art and architecture. Armenian monuments were unashamedly paraded as Azeri art until French-Armenians and later Armenian media exposed the farce and the scam.
Now that conservative Pope Leo XIV rules the Catholic Church, American conservative Catholics have begun to open their purses.
One hopes relieved of financial pressures and ashamed by the revelations of the Armenians, the Vatican would come to its senses and send a “Dear John” letter to the Laundromat dictator. For good measure, the pope should also dismiss the corrupt cardinals who acted as godfathers to the bizarre Azeri-Vatican axis. Meanwhile, it’s imperative for Echmiadzin’s legation at the Vatican to inform the new pope about Azeri vandals’ destruction of Armenian churches in Artsakh.
