Archbishop Mikael is in the post-operative phase, new surgery is possible
The defense team of Archbishop Mikael, Primate of the Shirak Diocese, issued a statement today saying that Archbishop Mikael Ajapahian is currently undergoing post-operative treatment and, due to his health condition, is unable to participate in the court hearing scheduled for January 13, 2026.
In an interview with Aysor.am, defense attorney Marine Farmanyan said the Archbishop remains in the post-operative phase and must undergo additional examinations related to another health issue.
“Whether a new surgery will be required or postponed in favor of prescribed treatment is a decision the doctors must make,” Farmanyan stated.
Regarding the next court hearing, the lawyer noted that they have not yet received notification of a new date.
Archbishop Mikael’s health deteriorated while in detention. Following a series of examinations, he underwent surgery at the Izmirlian Medical Center
