French National Assembly Adopts Resolution Calling for the Release of Armenians Held in Azerbaijan
PARIS — The French National Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution—by 183 votes in favor—calling for the release of Armenians illegally detained in Azerbaijan.
The resolution was presented by its co-author, Member of Parliament Laurent Wauquiez, on behalf of the France–Armenia Friendship Group.
In a post on X, Wauquiez wrote that, as president of the France–Armenia Friendship Group, he was pleased with the unanimous adoption of the resolution he proposed on February 3.
“France has a duty to act when others remain silent. We are defending the right of a Christian people to survive in a region where they are a minority,” he wrote.
All 183 parliamentarians present voted in favor of the document, which urges the release of Armenians currently held in Azerbaijan.
The text of the resolution was proposed by the France–Armenia Friendship Group.
