A 10-year-old Armenian boy named Musheghik shows the wounds on his hands after surviving a crucifixion during the spring of 1915.

By order of the Turkish commander Halil Kut, all children between the ages of 5 and 10 in this town suffered this fate, but Mushegh was lucky enough to be rescued in time by a Turkish officer (Yuzbashi) who was a friend of his parents.

Originally from the province of Van, he was born into a family of 14 members, of which only he and his mother survived the genocide.

His father and three of his uncles were killed in a work battalion on the way to Bashkale, after the mobilization of 1914.

His younger brother was among the thousands of Armenians deported from Van who died during the displacements. Shortly after the family settled in Baku, his other brother also died.
