In a video post targeting the genetic map of Turks, the SPD politician made provocative claims, saying, ‘Most of those in Turkey actually have Greek, Azerbaijani, and Armenian DNA.’
Tim Vollert, a member of Germany’s Social Democratic Party (SPD) and a science communicator known for the channel “3minutenwissen,” made scandalous statements in a published video about the genetic makeup of the Turkish nation. Vollert claimed that a large portion of people living in Turkey have “Greek, Azerbaijani, and Armenian DNA.”
Tim Vollert, who studied physics and biology and is known for the content he produces on social media, drew significant backlash with a video he released. Starting his speech by asserting that he has no animosity towards citizens coming from Turkey, Vollert made provocative claims lacking scientific basis about the genetic structure of Turks.
“THE MOST EXTERNALLY MIXED NATION”
Arguing that Turkey has historically received intense immigration, Vollert described Turkey as the world’s “most externally mixed nation.” Linking his claim to genetic factors, the SPD member stated, “The reason for this is simply that an incredibly large portion of people in Turkey actually have Greek, Azerbaijani, and Armenian DNA.”

Continuing his speech, Vollert shared what he claimed was a “joke” among geneticists, saying, “When a Turk takes a DNA test, everything shows up in the results except Turkey. Because over the last 2,000 years, there have been so many tribal and population movements in that region.”
