Swimmer Hovhannes Gabrielyan crossed Lake Sevan lengthwise, covering a total distance of 74 kilometers, according to a post on his Facebook page.

The “marathon” began at 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 12 from the shore near the village of Tsovak, Sputnik Armenia reported.

After spending about 36 hours in the water, the swimmer reached Piruze Beach in Tsovagyugh at 6 a.m. on Sept. 13.

Hovhannes had made several similar attempts before — last year and again several months ago this year — but on those occasions he was unable to reach the finish.

Other swimmers have also previously attempted to swim the length of Lake Sevan, but they too were unable to accomplish the goal.
