AMAA Insugurates Multi-functional Camp Hankavan Complex
AMAA has inaugurated its fully renovated multi-functional Camp Hankavan complex.
Located on the grounds of AMAA’s Shoghik Camp, which has been a summer retreat and comprehensive educational space for thousands of children for nearly two decades, the newly opened Camp Hankavan now operates as an “all-in-one” facility.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan; Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Arsen Torosyan; High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Zareh Sinanyan; Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister, Lilit Makunts; representatives of local and international organizations; philanthropists; and the leadership and Board members of AMAA’s US office.
The ceremony began with a ribbon-cutting conducted jointly by the Minister of Economy and AMAA leadership.
Camp Hankavan now features guest rooms, spaces for conferences, concerts, tourism, and corporate events, as well as a tennis court, football field, outdoor amphitheater, pavilions, and other infrastructure, covering an area of approximately 60,000 square meters.
Guests toured the renovated complex, exploring its facilities and visiting pavilions dedicated to AMAA’s five pillars in Armenia, showcasing programs in education, social services, economics, healthcare, and spiritual-cultural development.
Following the tour, the official program of the day commenced.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan, and leaders from AMAA’s U.S. and Armenian offices.
AMAA’s Armenia representative, Aren Deyirmenjian, expressed gratitude to the guests for attending and highlighted that the complex has always been—and will continue to be—a place “where lives are transformed.” He also specifically acknowledged the contributions of the staff, philanthropists, and the architect in the renovation and improvement of the camp.
AMAA President Gary Phillips emphasized that the reopening of Camp Hankavan reflects AMAA’s century-long dedication to Armenia by creating a new space for educational, community, and cultural development.
AMAA CEO/Executive Director Serge Buchakjian noted that the organization feels a profound responsibility toward the homeland—strengthening the future of the people and creating new opportunities for coming generations.
Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan underscored the organization’s contribution to national development, noting that the Government of the Republic of Armenia and AMAA move forward in parallel.
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan highlighted that such programs contribute to the country’s balanced development and the creation of equal opportunities.
High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan added that time has proven AMAA to be a key partner for the Armenian Government, quietly delivering enormous results through its work and programs.
