Aram I Calls on Vance to Address Armenian Prisoners’ Release
His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, has sent a letter to Vice-President JD Vance drawing his attention to the plight of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan, especially the Artsakh leaders and other prisoners of war being held in Baku.
The Catholicosate reported about the letter in a social media post, saying that the Catholicos also emphasized the urgent issue of ensuring the safe preservation of spiritual and cultural monuments in Artsakh, calling for Vance’s personal intervention on these matters.
President Donald Trump announced that Vance was scheduled to travel to Armenia and Azerbaijan, as part of an effort to discuss agreements reached at a White House summit last year attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. The talks, reportedly, will focus of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity—or TRIPP.
In him letter, Catholicos Aram I also highlighted that international law clearly underscores the importance of both the release of prisoners of war and the protection of spiritual and cultural heritage.
The Catholicosate announced that the letter has already reached Vance.
