Armenia Releases to the US American Wanted by Russia
Armenia has released Eric Thomas Creamer, a US citizen, to the US, who was wanted by Russian authorities.
Prior to this, the American had been unable to leave Armenia for three years, despite the fact that he had not been extradited to Russia, Radio Liberty reports.
Creamer was detained in Moscow in April 2017 and accused of drug possession. He himself claimed that the drugs were planted on him by the police, while demanding 500,000 rubles to close the criminal case.
Later, the US citizen was released on bail, he was able to fly home, but was put on the interstate wanted list.
In 2021, Krimer was detained in Armenia when he arrived there on vacation. For a long time, the Armenian authorities could not decide what to do with the American next. According to his lawyer, they did not extradite the detainee at Russia’s request because they did not want to spoil relations with the United States, but they did not let him go home either.
Last year, Krimer applied for political asylum in Armenia, but was denied.
