Armenia ruling circles creating grounds to arrest well-known American lawyer Robert Amsterdam

Yesterday, members of the ruling Civil Contract Party and its parliamentary faction were circulating the words of Russian Armenian entrepreneur and] philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan’s legal defense team member, well-known US-based Jewish lawyer Robert Amsterdam, for hours—essentially instructing law enforcement to arrest the lawyer, who had spoken out against Armenia.
And what exactly had the American lawyer said? “We will carry out an attack against Armenia every day until they release Samvel Karapetyan from Yerevan prison.” Zhoghovurd daily learned that the authorities’ circles have set a task of taking their new “target” into custody.
Although the lawyer later clarified that his statement referred to international legal and political pressure mechanisms, not physical actions, ruling party officials and their affiliated NGOs have interpreted his earlier remark as an “anti-state threat.”
On that basis, according to CC sources, the [Armenian] authorities’ circles are already discussing the matter of restricting Robert Amsterdam’s activities.
