Armenian Clerk at Jewelry Store Fights Armed Suspect
(KTLA) – Surveillance video captured the moment a store clerk fought back as she confronted an apparent armed smash-and-grab robber at a jewelry store in Montclair, California.
On Thursday, the masked suspect entered the Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs store at Montclair Place mall just after 7:30 p.m.
The suspect pretended to browse around before suddenly charging behind the jewelry counter toward the clerk, Alin Ouhan. The purported robber was allegedly armed with a handgun and a stun gun.
In the video, shared with Nexstar’s KTLA, Ouhan looked shocked as the suspect appeared to point a weapon at her. He demanded that she hand over diamond rings and jewelry while telling her to keep quiet.

As he could be seen smashing a display case and grabbing jewelry, Ouhan fights back and grabs the weapon. The two engage in a scuffle and Ouhan can be seen continuing to grab and hit the suspect as they grab more jewelry before fleeing from the store.
Ouhan’s family, who owns the jewelry shop, told KTLA that she wasn’t injured, but they were shocked after watching security footage of her fighting back.
Ouhan recalled feeling terrified at the time, but in a fight-or-flight moment, her fighting instincts kicked in and all she could think about was protecting her business.
“I was scared, but I had to do something, you know?” she told KTLA’s Chris Wolfe. “I was by myself.”
Ouhan’s family said they are still taking inventory of everything they lost, but that they’re missing valuable gold pieces, including diamond rings, gold chains, and bracelets.
The Montclair break-in was the second time they’ve been targeted, as another shop they own in San Bernardino was also burglarized. So far, the two break-ins have cost them thousands of dollars in merchandise losses and repair costs.
They’re hoping the suspect is caught soon before he targets another business. Ouhan described him as a Hispanic man between 45 and 55 years old with tan skin.
They said the suspect had cut himself when he smashed the display case and left blood evidence at the scene.
Anyone with information on the suspect or the case is asked to call the Montclair Police Department at 909-621-4771.
