Armenian cognac to be rebranded into Armenian brandy
YEREVAN (ARKA) Armenian cognac will be rebranded into Armenian brandy, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said at a joint session of the parliamentary committees on European integration and on financial and budgetary issues on Tuesday.
According to him, the EU was informed about the new name of Armenian cognac during the 5th session of the Armenia-EU partnership trade commission held on 17 October 2023.
‘An official letter was also sent to the relevant directorate of the European Commission. The new name will allow us to advertise Armenian cognac, control its export to foreign markets, as well as its quality,’ Papoyan noted.
He informed that there is assistance from the EU in this issue, in particular, a sum of 2.9 million euros will be allocated within 2 years and this process has already been launched.
Armenian brandy will become a brand; it should be registered, protected and have clear criteria. At the next stage it will be necessary to have a new body or organisation that will be responsible for and control the rebranding process,’ Papoyan said.
