Following the 2018 change of power in Armenia led by Nikol Pashinyan, many Armenians, hopeful for a new era, began naming their newborn sons after him. In 2018 alone, 13 babies were named Nikol. However, the trend quickly faded.
According to the data provided to Panorama.am by Armenia’s Statistical Committee, only 25 children were named Nikol over the past eight years. Notably, in the first half of 2025, not a single newborn received the name.
The figures, presented by State Statistical Council member Vardan Arevshatyan, are based on records from the Civil Status Acts Registry of the Ministry of Justice.
When asked how many schoolchildren currently bear the name Nikol, the committee said it does not hold such detailed data. Officials advised that inquiries on school-related records be directed to the National Center for Educational Technologies, which manages education statistics.
