ASSEMBLY SPEAKER ROBERT RIVAS ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR JOHN HARABEDIAN FOR STATE ASSEMBLY

Pasadena, CA – California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas announced his support for John Harabedian’s campaign for State Assembly. Harabedian is a Democrat running to represent Assembly District 41. Harabedian advanced through the primary election and will appear on the general election ballot in November.

Speaker Rivas released the following statement announcing his endorsement:
“In his years of local public service, John has earned his colleagues’ respect and the voters’ confidence. He’s committed to combating climate change, supporting working families, investing in public education, and growing our economy. I believe John will be a great asset to the Legislature, and I’m proud to support his campaign.”

The 41st Assembly District includes the cities of Bradbury, Claremont, La Cañada Flintridge, La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Dimas, Sierra Madre and portions of the cities of Hesperia, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland. Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans in AD-41 by a margin of 18%.

John Harabedian is a California State Board President, attorney, father, and former City Councilmember and Mayor.

John was born and raised in Sierra Madre. He was elected to the Sierra Madre City Council in 2012, re-elected in 2016, and twice served as Mayor. John was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown and re-appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to serve on the California Department of Consumer Affairs Acupuncture Board.

Professionally, John has worked as a prosecutor at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, and as an attorney at Latham & Watkins, Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, and the Equality Pro Bono Project. As a CORO Fellow, John worked with AFSCME District Council 36 and as a Policy Analyst for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office. John currently is an attorney and runs his own law firm. He also currently serves as a Regional Vice Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, as an Executive Board Member of the California Democratic Party, and as a Board Member of the Immigration Resource Center of San Gabriel Valley. The Los Angeles County Democratic Party recognized John as Assembly District 41’s “Democrat of the Year” in 2020.

A graduate of Loyola High School, John earned his bachelor’s degree at Yale University, master’s degree in comparative social policy from Oxford University, and law degree from Stanford University.

John lives in Pasadena with his wife, Young-Gi, and their three children.
