Azerbaijan leader not planning to come to Armenia to attend European Political Community summit
“The current level of bilateral relations [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] does not yet allow Aliyev’s visit to Yerevan to be considered a relevant step. Azerbaijan proceeds from the principle of real actions. A high-level visit without a signed [peace] treaty and without the launch of practical mechanisms [between the two countries] could create a false impression that the [peace] process is complete. As long as the legal framework is not established and the obligations are not fulfilled, such steps may be premature,” the source said.
According to the source, the prospect of high-level visits in the future is not excluded. On the contrary, from Baku’s point of view, after the signing and implementation of a peace agreement, this would be the logical continuation of the process.
Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had told reporters that the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev, had been invited to Yerevan to attend the EPC summit, which will take place next spring.
