Egoyan Receives Cinematography Award at Benalmádena Film Festival
The 23rd annual Benalmádena International Film Festival (FICCAB) paid tribute to Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan, who was awarded the “Ciudad de Benalmádena” Cinematography Award on Saturday at the festival’s opening ceremony held in Spain.
In attendance was the Mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, who chaired the event, as well as a number of other dignitaries and guests.
The festival, which focuses on alternative productions and short films, recognized Egoyan for his avant-garde approach and complex narratives.
Known for films such as “The Sweet Hereafter” (1997) and “Ararat” (2002), Egoyan emerged in the 1980s as part of the Toronto New Wave, and leapt to fame with “Exotica,” a film set in a strip club on the outskirts of Toronto. He has previously been nominated for two Oscars and has won various awards at international film festivals.
At the closing of the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to watch a screening of “Exotica,” officially kicking off the 23rd annual FICCAB.
The festival also featured screenings of Egoyan’s “Remember” (2015), “The Adjuster” (1991), and “The Sweet Hereafter.”
