Honorary Consul of Armenia in Las Vegas Meets with Mayor Carolyn Goodman
LAS VEGAS – On August 17, Honorary Consul of Republic of Armenia Andy Armenian met with City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman at her City Hall office. Their meeting was the first official visit of the Honorary Consul to the Mayor where they discussed issues concerning the Las Vegas Armenian-American community.
Armenian briefed the Mayor about the growing Armenian community in Las Vegas as around 15,000 Armenians call Las Vegas home and there are now around 1,000 Armenian small business owners and licensees in town. He also informed her that in 2013 the first Armenian Church construction was completed; St. Garabed Church at 2054 E. Desert Inn Road and soon the construction of a second Armenian Church will commence.
Also the Honorary Consul updated the Mayor regarding final preparations being made to construct the Armenian Genocide Memorial Monument at Sunset Park.
Mayor Goodman expressed her enthusiasm regarding the growing ethnic diversity in the City of Las Vegas and indicated that she is familiar with the Las Vegas Armenian community. She also described that many years ago she had several opportunities playing tennis with MGM Casino owner, the late Kirk Kerkorian.
