Leeds United identify new No.10 target who was Armenia’s Player of the Year in 2022

Leeds United, UK
A new name has been added to Leeds United’s transfer radar in the final 48 hours of the January transfer window. It’s likely not one Leeds fans have heard of, but Daniel Farke knows him very well.
Leeds United now seem to be rushing about to make some last minute deals before the winter window slams shut at 11pm on February 3rd.
Like many, the Whites have left it late. Leeds United haven’t signed a single player so far, overseeing the loan exits of Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Crew instead.
But there’s been no end of players linked with Leeds United in the last month or so, with new names being linked most days it seems.
In the last couple of days, Leeds United have been linked with Cameron Archer at Southampton, as well as former Liverpool and Arsenal man Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Besiktas.
Now, as we move rapidly towards deadline day, Leeds United are being linked with a new name in Eduard Spertsyan.
Daniel Farke plotting Krasnodar raid for Eduard Spertsyan
Daniel Farke has managed a handful of teams in his managerial career now, one being Russian outfit Krasnodar. But Farke actually didn’t oversee any games, leaving in March 2022 after two months at the club.
Despite that, he got a good look at attacking midfielder Spertsyan who he’s keen to bring to Elland Road. Russian outlet Sport24 report that Leeds United are keen on signing the 24-year-old, who’s got a good scoring record with Krasnodar.
The Armenian has scored 39 and assisted 28 more in 133 total games for Krasnodar. This season, Spertsyan has six goals and three assists in 18 Russian premier League appearances.
Leeds United target Eduard Spertsyan’s career so far
Spertsyan has been with Krasnodar since 2010. He joined the club’s youth academy and after eight years he made his league debut for the club.
He was born in Russia but has represented Armenia’s national side 32 times and has scored six goals for them, being named the Armenian Player of the Year for 2022.
Then in 2022/23 and 2023/24, Spertsyan was named the Russian Premier League Midfielder of the Year, as well as being named in the league’s Team of the Season in 2022/23.
A right-footed, goal-scoring midfielder, Spertsyan plays predominantly as a no. 10.
