Legislature passes draft law allowing nationalization of Electric Networks of Armenia company

The National Assembly (NA) on Thursday passed the draft law enabling the nationalization of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) company
The bill passed with 65 votes in favor, 27 against, in the second reading, and in full.
During the debates on the matter, the main rapporteur and member of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the NA, Vladimir Vardanyan, had stated that from the point of view of energy security, this means ensuring that the supply of electricity is not disrupted and consumers are protected even in cases where serious violations are recorded in any of the licensed organizations. In this context, the aforesaid draft law gives the Armenian state the opportunity to have rapid response mechanisms so that preventive measures can be taken in case of a high probability of danger.
And during the NA press briefings, Civil Contract Faction MP Vahagn Aleksanyan stated that the process of nationalization of the ENA will be carried out by a new initiative, but without specifying the timeframes.
