Olivier Giroud Auctions Off Soccer Jersey to Support ‘Persecuted Christians…Especially in Armenia’
Los Angeles FC striker Olivier Giroud is auctioning off a jersey he wore during an LAFC game to benefit SOS Chrétiens d’Orient, an organization that provides assistance to persecuted Christians.
Olivier Giroud, known for his faith and dedication to humanitarian causes, has again expressed his support of “all our Christian brothers and sisters persecuted in the East and especially in Armenia,” he said in a video shared on November 20 at an event organized for the auction.
“As Jesus said, there is more joy in giving than in receiving. It is an honor for me to put this jersey up for auction,” he added.
The jersey chosen to be auctioned was worn by Giroud during the U.S. Open Cup final on September 23 of last year, where the LAFC were won the championship, Le Parisien reported.
“I feel blessed to have won this new title, and I know that this donation will bless all our persecuted brothers and sisters today who need support,” Giroud said.
Giroud has become known for championing the rights of Christians around the world. In 2023, he raised $37,000 for Artsakh Armenians by auctioning off a jersey he wore in the 2022 World Cup.
French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, a former teammate of Giroud’s, also lended his voice to the cause as a demonstration of solidarity in soccer
