Palestine President Appoints Aghabekian as Foreign Minister
RAMALLAH, Thursday, March 28, 2024 (WAFA) – Prime Minister-designate Mohammad Mustafa has presented his government’s action plan and proposed formation list to President Mahmoud Abbas for confidence under the Basic Law for its approval, including Varsen Aghabekian as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
Consequently, President Abbas issued a decree granting confidence to the nineteenth Palestinian government and issued a decree regarding its formation. The new government is scheduled to swear in before the President next Sunday, March 31, 2024.
The government’s program emphasizes that its political reference is based on that of the Palestine Liberation Organization, its international commitments, and the assignment letter directed from President Mahmoud Abbas to the government.
The government program prioritizes humanitarian issues, encompassing a comprehensive plan for humanitarian aid and immediate relief for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as well as recovery and reconstruction efforts in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. It also focuses on efforts to stabilize the financial situation and its economic impact.
Furthermore, it includes plans for reform, restructuring, and unification of institutions, combating corruption, improving services, digital transformation, and unifying the institutions of both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
The government’s action plan also includes a section on the rule of law, enhancing the integrity of the financial sector, including empowering the judiciary, enhancing security, and ensuring public freedoms.
It also includes strengthening the resilience of Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley, and marginalized areas, continuing to work to preserve Christian and Islamic sanctities in Jerusalem, and developing plans and programs to reconnect the city with the entire Palestinian community.
