Pashinyan meets Afeyan, Samuelian to discuss healthcare

PanARMENIAN.Net – Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Jean-Charles Samuelian, founder of the French digital healthcare platform ALAN, and Nubar Afeyan, co-founder of Flagship Pioneering. Welcoming them to Armenia, Pashinyan noted that the government is steadily progressing toward implementing a health insurance system.
Highlighting comprehensive reforms in the healthcare sector, Pashinyan emphasized that introducing an insurance-based system will be a pivotal step for both the sector’s development and public benefit.
Jean-Charles Samuelian presented ALAN’s core operations, its advantages, and the potential it offers for healthcare digitalization, including streamlined and improved service delivery processes.
Pashinyan stressed the importance of fully digitizing healthcare and improving the efficiency of services provided.
Within this context, the parties discussed possible avenues for future collaboration. The Prime Minister proposed continuing the dialogue with Armenia’s Ministry of Health to further define areas of cooperation.
Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan recently announced that the first phase of the health insurance system will begin in 2026, initially covering citizens aged 65 and older with costs fully paid by the state. In 2023, the government approved a comprehensive health insurance roadmap aiming for full mandatory coverage for all Armenian citizens by 2027. A 2025 rollout for pensioners was initially planned but did not take place.
