The Republic Party is proposing to rename Leningradyan Street in Yerevan after prominent philanthropist and Armenian National Hero Kirk Kerkorian. The announcement was made by Ani Khachatryan, a member of the party’s city council faction, on her Facebook page.
She noted that the issue of renaming Leningradyan Street has been discussed for years. “Today, the Republic faction has initiated the process to rename the street after a great Armenian, a great benefactor, and a National Hero of Armenia—Kirk Kerkorian.”
Kerkorian dedicated his life to generous and consistent charitable work, significantly supporting his ancestral homeland, Armenia.
Given the street’s central importance and historical focus of public debate, the party plans to supplement the ongoing public discussion on the Active Citizen platform with in-person meetings with street residents. A press conference may also be held if needed, to present the initiative and address questions.
“It’s time for Yerevan to proudly bear the name of Kirk Kerkorian,” the statement concluded.
