Right across the border: US steps that will anger Turkey

The US is strengthening its presence near the Turkish border by establishing a military base in Ayn al Arab, where the YPG/PKK has a presence. It has been reported that US forces are carrying concrete barricades and ready-made walls in the region opposite Şanlıurfa.
The YPG/PYD, concerned that the Turkish-backed SMO (Syrian National Army) forces would launch an operation against Aynularab, asked for help from the United States. This development has the potential to reshape the geopolitical balances in the region.
US Role in the Region is Increasing
According to information received, 13 trucks carrying concrete barriers belonging to the US were sent to the Aynularab region this morning. This step is considered as part of the US’s efforts to increase its military presence in the region and provide logistical support to the organization.
US Plans New Base in Aynularab
The US, which is reportedly planning to establish a base in Aynularab, aims to strengthen its military infrastructure in the region. This development is a situation that needs to be monitored carefully in terms of both Turkey’s border security policies and the strategies of regional actors.
In the northeast of Syria, the YPG-affiliated SDF has begun establishing a base in the city of Ayn al Arab, which is located in the regions where it is deployed. It was reported that US forces brought concrete barricades and ready-made walls there with convoys.
Ayn Al Arab city is located right across from Suruç city in Şanlıurfa. In this way, the US has established a base right across from the Turkish border. It was reported that a significant part of the base has already been established.
It was claimed that the US had set up observation points in the sensitive areas of Sirrin and Tishrin Dam. However, no footage supporting these claims was shared.
It is also known that the US has a base in Hasake. The US, which announced that it has 2,000 soldiers in Syria in recent weeks, supports the SDF to ‘conduct operations against ISIS’.
It was claimed that the US, which provides infrastructure as well as weapons and air support to Kurdish forces here, would withdraw its political presence in the region. However, recent developments show otherwise.
While the US base was being established in the city of Ayn al Arab, a meeting was held between a delegation affiliated with the SDF and HTS. During the meeting, the SDF’s place in New Syria was discussed.
SDG AND HTS MEETING
HTS demanded that the SDF forces be restructured under a specific corps within the new Syrian army and that a percentage of the resources it controls, especially oil, be determined for itself.
These demands were rejected by the HTS General Command, but a proposal to include SDF elements in the new army was reportedly being worked on.
HTS leader Ahmed al-Sharaa stated that the YPG-affiliated SDF could ‘join the new Syrian army’ and said that he would carry out work on this issue.
