The Sierra Madre City Council addressed both solemn remembrance and key leadership changes during its Tuesday meeting.
The Council issued a proclamation commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, while also appointing a new City Manager to guide the city’s administration into its next chapter.
Recognition of the Armenian Genocide
The Sierra Madre City Council awarded a proclamation in recognition and remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the Armenian Genocide 110 years ago. Danny Donabedian, chairman of the Pasadena Armenian National Committee, attended Tuesday night’s meeting to accept the proclamation.
Adriana Perez, a representative from the office of California State Assemblymember John Harabedian, also spoke in remembrance of the genocide. She acknowledged Harabedian—who grew up in Sierra Madre—as the Chair of the California Legislative Armenian Caucus and the only Armenian member of the state legislature. Perez went on to highlight Harabedian’s continued efforts to uplift the Armenian community throughout the San Gabriel Valley and California.
