Snoop Dogg Yerevan concert organizers told to provide possible new date
YEREVAN (ARMENPRESS) — The delayed Snoop Dogg concert in Yerevan will eventually either take place on a new date or get cancelled, according to an Armenian Cabinet minister.
Snoop Dogg was supposed to perform live in Yerevan in September 2023. The concert is sponsored by the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. The event was delayed because of the Azeri attack in Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023. Doping Space is the organizer of the concert.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, when asked on the concert, told reporters on Friday that she has no information about a new date.
“I can’t say when it will take place because the ministry is not the organizer, we are simply the sponsors,” Andreasyan said, adding that the negotiations and organizational work related to the concert are carried out by Doping Space. “We have sent an inquiry to them requesting the possible timeframes of the concert envisaged in the contract. We are waiting for their response. As far as we know the negotiations are underway and there is no other information now. There will be two possible outcomes, either they agree and the concert takes place or, if they don’t reach an agreement and it doesn’t take place then naturally the whole contract will be dissolved and the entire funds will be returned,” Andreasyan said.
Doping Space was paid $6 million by the ministry to organize the concert.
Meanwhile, the Competition Protection Commission of Armenia said it has launched proceedings regarding the funding of the delayed concert on ‘prohibited state support’.
The commission alleged that Doping Space was provided with the funding through a selective approach because no tender was announced for the contract.
