The AI Revolution in the Broadcast Industry: Insights from the NAB Show
By Aram Ter-Martirosyan
I recently attended the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas, an event I’ve participated in for nearly two decades. This year, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) significantly transformed production, delivery, and customer satisfaction measurement in the broadcast industry.
Revolution in Production, traditionally the most resource-intensive aspect of broadcasting, is being dramatically overhauled by AI. For example, AI can now generate entire productions based on detailed prompts, producing ready-to-air content within minutes. This includes daily news productions where AI compiles information from social media and news websites, complete with video clips and an AI-generated presenter delivering the content almost instantly.
Personalized Broadcasting In broadcasting, AI now enables personalized advertising, with each viewer receiving ads tailored to their demographics through new standards like ATSC3 and existing IP delivery platforms. AI enhances content interaction, allowing viewers to directly access specific parts of a program, such as a recipe from a cooking show, highlights from a hockey game, or even information about a blouse worn by a show host.
Enhanced Customer Satisfaction AI’s capability to analyze large data sets is particularly beneficial for measuring and enhancing customer satisfaction. It enables broadcasters to generate detailed reports on audience satisfaction and predict future content performance, aiding in reducing customer churn and attracting new viewers.
Despite these advancements, Armenian engineers and companies have been noticeably absent from this evolving scene. As the broadcast industry becomes more software-dependent, there is a profound opportunity for Armenian professionals to excel by developing and offering AI-enhanced production, delivery, and management tools.
The AI revolution in broadcasting is reshaping how content is produced, delivered, and experienced. For Armenian engineers and tech companies, now is the time to engage and leverage their expertise to navigate and lead in this dynamic environment.
