Yerevan court hands down jail term to opposition activist Narek Malyan
A first instance court in Yerevan on Friday handed down a one-year prison sentence to opposition activist, writer and publicist Narek Malyan.
Judge Susanna Gzogyan of the General Jurisdiction Court found him guilty of “making public calls for violence” on social media under Article 329.2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
Malyan, the leader of the Veto civic group who has been detained since 20 September 2023, will have to spend 5 months and 7 days behind bars.
