Ani Marderosian to direct two shows this Fall
Award-winning actress, singer, and director Ani Marderosian is returning to Kingsburg’s Village Barn Playhouse.
Marderosian is set to direct all three shows this season. The first, was performed in May of this year called, “The Cheryl Barnett Show” an original variety show based on the Carol Burnett Show. Now, she returns to direct the final two shows of the season! “The Marvelous Wonderettes” is next, playing October 17-19, followed by “Boeing Boeing” November 13-16.
As stated on the Village Barn Playhouse website, this season’s “productions revolve around the theme: The Golden Oldies, featuring playful stories that celebrate the good old days but remind us that truly – not much has changed!”
“The Marvelous Wonderettes” is a smash Off-Broadway hit that takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. “It is a kitchy jukebox musical that features over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits,” says Marderosian. “It’s a cute musical that will leave you smiling as you listen to all your favorite songs. We are also very proud that our entire cast is local talent.”
“Boeing Boeing” is a hilarious 1960s French farce adapted for the English-speaking stage features self-styled Parisian lothario Bernard, who has Italian, German and American fiancées, each a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down, and one pending” – until unexpected schedule changes bring all three to Paris, and Bernard’s apartment, at the same time. This play will have you in stitches!
The Village Barn Playhouse is a grassroots theatre company that started putting on professional productions since 2020. Yes, the stage is in an actual barn. “I’m excited to direct at this quaint theatre again,” says Marderosian. “VBP embodies the phrase ‘storytelling can be done anytime, anywhere.’ This small but mighty theatre company works hard to bring high-quality storytelling to the town of Kingsburg, using every possible resource.”
Marderosian, the granddaughter of well-known entertainer Guy Chookoorian, most recently starred in the title role in Imagine Theatre Company’s production of “Warrior Queen: Anahit the Brave,” and directed the Off-Broadway premiere of Ailema Sousa’s “Fort Huachuca,” and “Witness for the Prosecution” at Glendale Centre
Theatre, where audiences will remember the actress for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Maria in “West Side Story.”
Following these two productions, Ani will head back to Los Angeles to tour Southern California singing this holiday season.
