All Armenian writings removed from buildings on central streets of Karabakh capital Stepanakert
The Azerbaijani side has embarked on the reconstruction of Freedom Fighters Avenue, one of the central streets of Nagorno-Karabakh capital Stepanakert, reports monumentwatch.org.
This is clearly visible in the videos posted by the construction workers working in Stepanakert, where many of the buildings on Freedom Fighters Avenue are covered with construction decks.
The city’s music college, adjacent buildings are undergoing Azerbaijani “reconstruction,” and construction equipment is standing near the Stepanakert geological museum.
It can be seen from the videos that all Armenian writings—signs, advertisements, street names—have been removed from the buildings on the central streets of Stepanakert.
After such reconstructions, buildings usually acquire a new function. This risk threatens the cultural institutions located on the Freedom Fighters Avenue, which are being reconstructed first.
In such a case, the fate of all the property—books, archival materials, exhibits, etc.—in those buildings remains unknown. After such reconstructions, the small cultural compositions erected on the street in various years near these buildings also disappear.
