Armed attack on an Armenian school in Istanbul

Istanbul — In the morning of January 22, an armed attack took place on the Tatian Armenian private school located in the Bakirkoy district of Istanbul. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
One of the detainees was released, while the other was handed over to the courts.
As a result of the armed attack, the windows of the Armenian school were shattered and bullet holes were observed on the walls. As a result of a search of the house of one of the arrested suspects, a pistol was found.
Meanwhile, the police, having studied the security camera footage, found that one of the two suspects opened fire in the direction of the Armenian school, while the other collected the empty shells. Noticing that the suspects were hiding in a shelter, the police took measures and launched an operation against them. The suspects, identified as Sh.K. and Y.Ch., were arrested.
According to a the Istanbul Security Directorate, the suspects had previously committed various crimes. A pistol and 14 shells were found in their home as a result of the search.
Y.Ch. was released after questioning and his file was sent to the relevant justice bodies. As for the other suspect, Sh.K. was handed over to the courts on charges of “damaging property”, “endangering public security in a visible manner” and other charges.
